Primary Physical Education and School Sport
Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the Government will commit funding for the Primary PE and Sport Premium to 2020, with £750m to be invested over the course of the next parliament.
The investment builds on the £150m a year ring fenced funding currently committed for schools until 2016 to increase primary PE and sport opportunities. This is ring fenced funding - allocated directly to primary schools across England, and it became effective in September 2013.
Purpose of the funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses of the funding include:
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
The Stafford Sports and Performance Academy are delighted to work with a number of first and primary schools to support their Primary PE Curriculum.
These schools include:
St. Lawrence CE Primary School
Blessed Mother Teresa Primary School
St. Micheals First School
All Saints First School, Standon
